Outerwear Guide
OUTERWEAR GUIDE
There’s nothing a parent loves more than to watch their children enjoy their adventures in the playground, play in the snow and jump in puddles without worry. Children can play outdoors for hours and parents can rest in the knowledge that their little ones are fully protected in their MINI A TURE outerwear.
MINI A TURE’s outerwear range combines high quality with a unique design that meets all technical demands, but is at the same time comfortable for your child to wear.
This guide contains useful information about the technical qualities of our outerwear collection and for information about individual products in the range, simply search by the product in our web shop.
IN GENERAL – PAY ATTENTION TO THIS
ON AND OFF A piece of outerwear is worn countless times during a season so it is important for both parents and children alike that the garments are easy to put on and take off. This also goes for older children who are eager to put their jacket or snowsuit on in a hurry by themselves and MINI A TURE’s outerwear is designed to accommodate this.
SAFETY Safety is paramount throughout the design process which is why you won’t see any long strings in any of our pieces and hoods can be easily detached using snap buttons. In winter when the nights draw in earlier it is essential that children are visible when outdoors which is why we use a range of different reflectors. We use 70 lux reflectors which are visible from 300m providing parents with the comfort that their children can be seen at long distances. In fact, our logos on the back and side of the garments are reflectors and our jackets and snowsuits all feature MINI A TURE’s signature star reflector on one of the front pockets.
WATERPROOF It is vital that outerwear is waterproof particularly during Winter. How waterproof a garment is will depend on its waterproof rating. The higher the rating, the longer the fabric will remain waterproof. WP 10,000 mm is the highest rating and means that the garment is able to withstand incredibly forceful water pressure. A lot of our outerwear in AW 19 has WP 12,000 mm. Reistance to water does reduce over time, so after five washes, the WP is guaranteed at 10,000 mm (compared with the recommended guidelines of a WP of 5,000 mm to keep a child dry). The outerwear in our spring, summer and autumn collections all have a WP of 8,000 mm.
WATERPROOF / TAPED SEAMS Not only does a garment need to be waterproof but so do the seams. Taped seams indicate that a waterproof tape is attached to the back of a seam, which prevents water from penetrating the garment. All MINI A TURE’s technical outerwear feature taped seams, in particular soft tapes which ensure that the fabric does not wear out easily.
BREATHABLE When children are running around in the playground, they can often get very warm. This body heat needs to be released very quickly to prevent children getting a cold. The breathability of a fabric is measured by the amount of grams of water that can penetrate a square meter of fabric over a 24-hour period – mvp or g/m2/24h. The composition and treatment of the MINI A TURE outerwear collection ensures that it is very breathable with an mvp of 10,000 and most importantly, is comfortable to wear.
ABRASION At MINI A TURE we design outerwear with the philosophy that the garments must last season after season. Our outerwear is tested by the industry-recognised ‘martindale method’ and measured a high score of over 50,000 rubs which means many hours can be spent playing outdoors!
FUR Selected hoods in the outerwear collection come with the addition of wild Finnish raccoon fur, which can be easily removed using a zip fastening. MINI A TURE is committed to the preservation of our global environment, as well as the ethical and humane treatment of animals. We guarantee that any fur used on our products has been sourced from animals culled in their natural habitat in accordance with governmental regulation of the species (Wildlife Preservation Certification). We are able to track every single piece of fur used on our garments and have a SAGA certificate which is a wildlife certification on fur from Scandinavia.
LINING & PADDING For winter, we have used a double cut, anti-pile polar fleece for the body which is not only a soft and durable fabric but provides excellent heat insulation. Our snow pants and jacket sleeves are quilted with 210T lining, a highly durable polyester lining. To ensure children are warm and cosy in their outerwear, the garments feature thermolite padding, a light fabric with high thermal insulation which is also anti-perspiration and highly breathable. Garments in our spring / summer / autumn collection also feature the 210T lining.
DOWN is a soft and very light natural material. Our down consists of 80% down and 20% small feathers. The more down in a garment, the better the insulation it provides. We produce down jackets for both summer and winter, for which we use additional down to make the pieces extra warm. The outer is feather proof, ensuring that the feathers will not pop out.
NO HARMFUL ADDITIVES MINI A TURE outerwear contains no harmful additives or perfluorinated substances. Our technical outerwear has an inner coating which makes the material water, windproof and breathable all at the same time. The outer fabric has a unique heating treatment, which is also dirt-repelling.
